Benefits
- One of the highest protein contents among Indian pulses
- Rich in iron, calcium, potassium and folate
- Its natural mucilage is what makes idli and dosa batter rise — no other dal substitutes
- Fermented urad is a traditional source of gut-friendly bacteria
- Organic and unpolished, which shows directly in how well the batter ferments
Usage
- For idli or dosa: soak 1 part urad with fenugreek seeds 4–6 hours, grind fluffy
- Combine with soaked rice or rava in a 1:3 ratio, ferment 8–12 hours in a warm place
- For vada: grind thick with minimal water, stiff enough to hold shape
- For dal makhani: combine with rajma
Ingredients
- 100% organic split and husked black gram (Vigna mungo)
- No polishing agents or additives
Precautions
- The heaviest pulse to digest in Ayurvedic terms — best eaten earlier in the day
- Moderate portions with sensitive digestion or acidity, avoid late at night
- High in purines — limit intake with gout, kidney stones or a prescribed low-purine diet
- Soak properly before grinding
- Store airtight in a dry place, moisture ruins batter performance

The wheat flour feels so fresh and natural. The rotis stay soft for hours, and my family can actually taste the difference.

We've switched to Prakrti Pure pulses because they cook faster and have a richer taste. It feels like going back to traditional food.

The jaggery has become my go-to replacement for refined sugar in tea and sweets. It has a rich, authentic flavor without being overly sweet.
